How do you keep your spirits up during lockdown?

spirit lockdown

Today Boogie asks: how do the French experience confinement? The Patou always stays positive during this extraordinary period, so he wants to share his advice so you can keep your good mood as long as possible.

Statistics on the morale of the French:

According to available statistics, the morale of the French is slowly improving in recent days. The level of anxiety has been falling since last week. On 29 March 75% of the French population was convinced that the worst was yet to come. A few days later, only 56% expected the worst, according to a Europe 1 survey.

In particular, more and more people are getting used to teleworking: about 84% are happy with their working conditions. The companies that were not ready for it are putting in place all the necessary devices.

What do the French do for entertainment at home? More than 60% practice sports activities to keep fit during this "sitting" period. Finding online classes is easier than ever: initiatives are multiplying on social networks where several coaches post their training plans and give live classes.

84% of those confined regularly do housework (which is also an exhausting sport!), 79% spend their time reading and 52% discover new recipes. But if you're already sick of Netflix and reading, if you're bored and feeling more depressed than usual, Boogie has prepared some tips to encourage you.

Boogie didn't sit on the sidelines and came up with Squadeasy - a responsible and engaging challenge to help care staff by simply taking steps at home. For three weeks, Squadeasy donated to AP-HP, Institut Pasteur, La fondazione fiera milano and the medical research foundation with 22,490 km covered by our users.

Keep your spirits up in 5 steps :

Step 1: Accept your emotions

Having negative emotions is perfectly normal during such a time, but don't let your feelings overwhelm you. Accepting your emotions means that you are ready to control them. First you need to understand what exactly you are feeling: anger, fear, sadness? It is important to share them with your friends and family, and not to block them in your head. Then try to find the usefulness of this emotion to build your well-being.

Step 2: see the positive side

A blessing in disguise: try to look for the positives in everything that is happening at the moment. Maybe it's a good opportunity to spend more time with your family, reorganise your life, learn new things, or start listening to your body and understand better what you really need? Take a pen and paper and start writing positive things down - as many as you can! This is an exercise that will help you find more than you think

Step 3: Make your to-do list

Boogie knows that getting organised at home is not easy. It's a place where you're used to resting, so Boogie has had to work hard not to gnaw on bones all day.  Making a list is a good way of organising your day and not regretting that something is not finished. Don't forget to include your hobbies! This exercise may give you more satisfaction than usual and will show you areas to work on.

Step 4: Limit news reading to 10 minutes a day

If you are still searching for "coronavirus France direct" on Google and updating at least 3 times an hour, I have bad news for you. You are deliberately putting yourself under stress. From this moment on, try to say STOP and limit the reading of news to 5-10 minutes a day only in the morning or evening.  The news becomes immediately available in our memory, and we tend to fix our attention on the negative information. This phenomenon is explained in psychology by the availability heuristic which only leads to biased conclusions. To take an example: What do you think would be more dangerous - an earthquake, a car crash, a plane crash or a swimming pool? The right answer is a swimming pool, because you are much more likely to drown in a swimming pool than in the other variants. But in the news there is never any mention of swimming victims.  Our mood depends significantly on the things we pay attention to, so try to focus on things that make you happy.

Step 5: Get more physical and recreational activity

To protect your immune system, it is essential to maintain regular physical activity. Boogie has prepared some exercises to get you moving and soaking without leaving your house.

Now you have a good opportunity to find more workout plans to use even after the confinement. Don't hesitate to take advantage of all the resources available right now!

Boogie wishes you all the best for the coming weeks. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!

PS: Above all, #stayhome!
